Grants Guide
Who is eligible for
funding?
The Women’s Fund invites    
requests for funding that will assist
women and/or girls in Herkimer
and Oneida counties.  Gender and
geographic location are the sole
restrictions on those who will
benefit.  There is no minimum
amount that must be requested.

Organizations designated as tax-
exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of
the Internal Revenue Service
Code, or a fiscal agent with that
status.
What we fund:
Direct project and personnel costs

Related administrative and office
expenses essential to the project

Equipment or capital expenditures
that directly benefit women and
girls
What we don’t fund:
Ongoing operating expenses

Religious or political purposes

Underwriting for fund raising events

Endowments

Debt reduction

Individual scholarships

Individual medical procedures

Indirect costs of any percentage

Already incurred expenses

Hospitality expenses

Create opportunities for economic,
educational and personal growth
for women and girls.

Encourage the advancement and
full participation of women and
girls in the community.

The needs of girls and women of
all ages will be considered.
Our goal is to continue to build our endowment to further our
mission. Each year we will make a limited number of grants.  
Average awards are not expected to exceed $5,000 each.
We have only one funding cycle per year.
Only one grant proposal per year may be submitted by an agency.
Funding
Cycle
Grant applications must be received no
later than 4:00 PM on Friday, September
19, 2008. We will not accept any
applications received later than this
date/time. We will not accept grant
applications sent by e-mail or fax.

The Women’s Fund will respond with its
final determination no later than mid-
December.
Grant
Application
Please submit fourteen (14) packets
containing copies of the following items:
  • Grant Application Cover Sheet  
    (Available as a PDF below);
  • Letter of Intent (not to exceed 2
    pages); and
  • Agency Executive Director's
    Signature must be on the Letter of
    Intent;
  • Project budget (1 page)
In addition, please submit one (1) copy
each of:
  • Current list of Board of Directors   
    (1 page); and
  • IRS 501(c)(3) Determination letter;
    and
  • Your most recent independent
    audit; and
  • Supporting documentation  
    (optional, 2 pages)

  • Email address
Your 1-2 page
Letter of Intent
should contain:
Needs and/or Problems Addressed
Describe the needs or problem your project
addresses.  Include relevant statistics,
other information that substantiates the
needs, and the amount you are requesting
(specific dollar amount).

Dollar Amount
State the specific dollar amount that you
are requesting in the first paragraph of the
Letter of Intent.

Background Information
Briefly describe your organization’s history,
mission, major accomplishments, current
programs and services, and your
constituency.

Project Description
Describe specifically the goals, objectives
and activities or strategies that will be
implemented to address the problem and
needs described.  Include relevant
timeline and other project or program-
related information.  Describe who will
implement the project or program and
their qualifications.  Tell us how you are
collaborating or communicating with groups
working on similar issues.

Other Sources of Support
Identify any other sources of committed or
expected in-kind or cash support for the
project or program.  Include plans for
continuation of the project over time.

Evaluation
Describe how you will evaluate the impact
and success of the project or program.

Friday,September 19, 2008 at 4:00 PM.

We cannot accept late or incomplete grant applications.  
In conducting due diligence, The Women’s Fund may make
inquiries of the applicant organization or of
other collaborating organizations.
